Return of the “Plus” Sized Women…Curves Ahead

Friday, January 29th, 2010

The ultra chic fashion magazine V is featuring an entire issue in February devoted to “plus” sized models which is on newsstands now. Women ranging from sizes 12 to 14 will be posing in barely there outfits. Among these outfits there will be photos of the models in bathing suits, “bras, and low slung jeans, for “V” magazine’s “Size” issue.

This feature has been the cause of many heated discussions all over the internet. After checking out a few of the discussions it seems like most people are excited to see real sized women grace the pages of a major fashion magazine, if even for just one issue, helping to boost the confidence of the average sized woman. Though there are those with quite differing opinions on this topic, it’s something different and fun that V has chosen to do reminding all women that they are beautiful in their own way and we applaud their February ‘10 edition.

Trends Tuesday- Boot-ylicious

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

Think of Nirvana, Dawson’s Creek, and scrunchies. Ok so, we all remember the 90’s and some may still be trying to forget them. You can run, but you can’t hide. Many of the fashion trends from the early 90’s are now back in style and bigger than ever. One trend you thought you would never have to see again that is making a huge comeback is combat boots

clip_image002

From Dr. Martens to Frye Boots, companies are reproducing (or continuing to produce) the traditional combat boot but with some fun modern touches. Everything from studs to straps and patterns are being added to combat boots to give them an updated look that’s hard to resist.

If you’re feeling adventurous and want to give them a try, they come in all different heights from a shorter ankle look, all the way to knee- high looks. Tons of celebrities are wearing the traditional Dr. Marten combat boot (as shown above) with the top folded out so the flannel is visible, and some are going for an edgier, studded play on the boot. If the flannel and studs aren’t for you, try a pair of simple black motorcycle boots. They are just as fun and still have that 90’s feel to them.

Everyone from Rhianna to Ke$ha has been spotting rocking this new trend, and mixing the hard edge of the combat boots with fun, girly outfits. If you’re not sure what to wear with these boots try something simple during the day like leggings and a bulky sweater, or flannel. You can finish off the look with a great knit, saggy hat and a colorful pair of Ray Bans. Almost anyway you style these boots will look great, just remember to have fun with your look.

President Obama Embarks on Modeling Career, sort of…

Monday, January 18th, 2010

Obama models,  well sort of…

President Barak Obama is well known and well liked for his politics and for some others, he is well liked for his good looks.  Outerwear company, Weatherproof, seems to agree with the public as well because earlier this month they put up a billboard in New York City with the President striking a pose in the brand’s jacket while in China.  Although the company maintains that the picture is authentic and was legally obtained from the Associated Press, the White House has asked the company to remove the ad.  Unfortunately for both the company and the public, the President’s model pose will be no more.

Emma Watson’s Missing A Leg

Emma Watson shot the latest Burberry campaign with her good-looking younger brother Alex Watson.  One of the shots Burberry has released has many in the fashion world talking and it isn’t about how adorable the sibling pair is.  In fact, it is how un-attractive and un-natural this photo appears to be.  Look closely at the pose and notice how Emma’s right leg simply disappears behind her brother Alex.  This interesting pose has many people asking, is this simply a bad angle or is this photo the latest case of celebrity Photoshop gone bad?

Colorado to Boost Incentives for Film Industry

Friday, January 15th, 2010

In this difficult economy, finding and creating new, viable business opportunities is proving difficult to just about everyone. In Colorado, Governor Bill Ritter is hoping to change this, at least in the world of creative production in the Rocky Mountain region.

As the costs of film production continue to increase year over year, the state of Colorado is seeking new ways to incentivize production companies. Colorado already has some tax incentives in place for film production; Gov. Ritter has recently introduced a new set of legislative bills to amplify the incentives and rebates to further entice outside production crews to utilize the vast and varied backdrop of Colorado and the city of Denver.

At the Colorado 2010 legislative session, which started last Wednesday, January 13th, the new bills will be introduced. Although the bills are not completely finalized, Gov. Ritter expressed a very optimistic view when presenting it to the public. Gov. Ritter emphasized that in no way would these bills cost the taxpayers; and that the main focus is to decrease restrictions on the existing bill’s hiring and spending requirements. Currently, any out-of-state production companies seeking to work in Colorado, must comprise its production staff to be 75% Colorado residents; these numbers would be dramatically decreased in the new bill.

As stated by Gov. Ritter, Colorado’s fifth largest employment sector is the ‘Creative Industry’, which is currently comprised of over 186,000 workers statewide. The new bills presented will bring more business to our great state and hopefully with it, greater opportunities for everyone in Colorado’s creative industry.
