Yesterday, Love Magazine tweeted this photo of model Agyness Deyn sporting a much, much shorter ‘do.  Her GI Jane inspired buzz actually looks pretty cute on her, maybe the fact that she is a model has something to do with her ability to look hot with a buzz!

Now Hollywood’s elite toddlers like Suri Cruise, Kingston Rosdale, and the Jolie-Pitts can add another fashion label to their closets. Gucci has plans to launch a kids line this June. The kids collection will first debut in Italy, and eventually make its way into 40 other retail stores worldwide.

Several dresses and outfits owned by the late Princess Diana will be up for auction in London this June. Of the more desirable items up for auction is a black taffetta Emanuel dress which Diana wore at the age of 19 when she made her first official appearance with her then fiance, Prince Charles. And experts are estimating that dress alone might go for over £50,000! Also up for auction is that famous chiffon blouse Diana wore for her engagement photo, estimated to bring in about £15,000, along with sketches of her wedding dress. Even that famous black dress she wore to a charity ball at Goldsmiths’ Hall in the City back in 1981 is going on sale. The items are being sold by designers David and Elizabeth Emanuel, who often created couture pieces for the Princess.

Pixie Geldof, Peaches’ little sister, landed a modeling gig for Henry Holland’s new H! Collection for British retailer Debenhams.  Apparently she and Henry are close friends and the designer dubbed the 19 year old his muse for the collection, which he hopes will “increase accessibility to my designs and create a high-fashion yet wearable range with widespread appeal”.

It appears as though the economy and fashion retailers are starting to make their comeback. Louis Vuitton is reporting an 11% increase in total sales in the first quarter. They also boast sales were up 10% in fashion, 12% in cosmetics, 20% in booze and 34% in jewelry.

For most women, there’s nothing better than the pairing of food and shopping.  Ralph Lauren has announced that he will be opening a sprawling 13,000 square foot new store in Paris, which will also be the unveiling of his new restaurant simply titled Ralph’s.

Rocker chic model Alice Dellal, is putting her musical talents to work by forming an all-girl rock group.  The band, which is called Thrush Metal, includes fellow models Emma Chitty and Laura Fraser as well as Isabella Ramsey, niece to Earl of Dalhouise. Thrush Metal is keeping their music gigs very hush hush, which means one of two things: they suck or they’re so good they don’t want to blow the world’s minds just yet… stay tuned!

J.Crew Does Fall Fashion Right

J.Crew Fall 2010

At J.Crew’s fall 2010 presentation last night at Milk Studios, the brand showed us how affordable fashion can look like glamorous couture.

The brand showed a beautiful line of textured tweeds and tights and outerwear with Mongolian lamb accents. Jenna Lyons, J.Crew creative director, described the look as “Edie Beale goes to Girl Scout camp.”

And for spring, Lyons likes minimal looks, she states “I love all the paler creams,” she gushed. However, she’s not a fan of the eighties revival. Lyons also recently stated she would love to do a designer collaboration with Christian Louboutin for footwear. Last night she came up with a slew of designers she’d like to work with which includes “Alber Ebaz, Phillip Lim, Riccardo Tisci,” she said. “YSL — I’m dying. I would love to work with Stefano [Pilati]. I’m a huge fashion freak.”

When asked about dreams for any celebrity design collaborations? “I would have to say Cate Blanchett. I love her. She’s not a clone. If everyone is wearing cupcake dresses she’s not wearing a cupcake dress, she’s wearing something totally different. Or Maggie Gyllenhaal, I love Maggie Gyllenhaal. She looked incredible at the Oscars in that Dries little column dress.”

Well we have to thank J.Crew for the beautiful fall presentation- it looks spectacular! We can’t wait for the line to come out in stores so we can model these stylish and affordable threads.

Vogue Editor-In-Chief Anna Wintour and designer Michael Kors were on the list of speakers at the 13th Annual Public Forum presented by the Harris Center at Massachusetts General Hospital held at the Harvard Business School.  Entitled “Health Matters: Weight and Wellness in the World of Fashion,” the forum addressed the actions being taken to reduce weight issues and eating disorders in models.  Wintour specifically brought up the positive strides the industry has been making to ensure models’ health which include setting minimum age requirements, banning booze and tobacco backstage during fashion shows and reducing hours for younger models.  Some talking points include “We are all responsible for the models’ health,” she declared in her speech. And Michael Kors further addressed the age issue in models by promising not to use models under the age of 16 in his own shows.  Another speaker included Russian supermodel Natalia Vodianova who spoke up as a model herself and dealing with anorexia, making the very sad and honest statement: “It is very hard to have a feeling of stability. Anorexia is sometimes the only form of control these girls have.“ However, the forum ended on a positive and hopeful note as Vodianova stated,
“It’s in fashion now to be healthy.”

8 Model Tricks, We All Should Try

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

Number 1: Pastel Colors Are Sexy

At New York Fashion Week, Michael Kors‘ models walked the runway sporting a grown-up version of pastel eye shadow.  Shimmery beiges, pale greens, yellows, pinks and radiant purples were all used on the runway to make the models’ eyes pop.  To achieve this look yourself: line your eyes with a black eye pencil and add gold shimmer to the inner corners.  Then apply a light blue, green, pink or purple shadow along the lower curve of the eyes from the lash line to just above the crease.  Lastly, simply smudge and blend the colors to make a gorgeous and fresh take on pastel eye shadow.

Number 2: Allover Skin Moisturizer

It is important that models’ skin stays moist and radiant.  To achieve this, models use an ultra rich moisturizing balm to keep their natural glow.  Use a face moisturizer like Darphin Aromatic Renewing Balm (available at darphin.com, $70) or a little petroleum jelly to keep your face fresh.

Number 3: Oranges Is In

Many of the runway shows in New York traded in the traditional red for a more muted orange tone.  Designer Rebecca Taylor put bright orange lipstick on many of her models, to compliment the orange hues she used in her Spring 2010 collection.  To balance orange lipstick, we suggest rubbing a creamy orange blush into the cheekbones and complimenting the eyes with a light smoky brown eye shadow.

Rebecca Taylor

Number 4: Lashes are Key!

Eyelashes are a attention grabber, as Chado Ralph Rucci showed us in New York, so it is important for models to have feather-like lashes, not clumped or chunky.  To achieve perfect lashes, apply mascara with a fan brush (available at drugstores and MAC, $18).  Apply by rubbing the fan brush over your mascara wand, then brush it into your lashes, the stiff fan brush bristles will keep your lashes from clumping.

Chado Ralph Rucci

Number 5: Primp Your Ponytail

The runways of New York Fashion Week were abuzz with slicked back hair-dos and every version of a bun or ponytail.  The sexy ponytails of runway shows such as Lela Rose and Monique Lhuillier were complete with crimped and curled textures with hair wrapped around the elastic ponytail holders, to give a more natural look.  To achieve this look: spritz sections of your wet hair with hairspray, then blow-dry hair by running your fingers through it, to give it a messy look.  Then use a crimping iron to crimp a large section of your hair straight down the middle of your head.  Lastly, pull back the crimped section and secure your slicked-back pony.

Number 6: Try an Eye-Catching Mani

Your nails can be used as a showpiece accessory (think recession-friendly accessory).  We suggest you paint your nails with an eye-catching shade and go over it with a sparkle polish.  The chunky glitter and gold flakes are in, so take advantage and spice up your usual red and pinks.  Brands such as Essie and OPI have some beautiful colors this season.

Number 7: Liven Up the Boring Bun

Chic buns were a hit at the Jason Wu and Tibi shows this New York Fashion Week.  We really liked the classic runway staple with a twist.  You can either use leftover fabric or ribbon to twist into your hair before wrapping it up into a bun or we suggest you wear a textured bun.  A textured bun can be achieved by leaving hair natural or wavy and securing a messy bun at the nape of the neck by using bobby pins.

Jason Wu

Number 8: The Vampire Craze Is Still Here

Many models on the runway sported deep Bordeaux, purple and wine colored lips and nails during fashion week.  This intense lipstick color is not for everyone, but when done right looks beautiful.  To achieve this look: apply a deep berry colored matte lipstick with a lip brush to create a base.  Then add a creamy eggplant or wine shade on top, smooth with your finger for a stained effect.  To balance out deep lips, use light bronze tones on the eyes to keep the warmth.

Naomi’s Knocking Out Her Cab Drivers

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

According to reports made by New York Magazine, the lovely and ever so refined super model Naomi Campbell was picked up by a taxi in Midtown in NYC this afternoon around 3 p.m. For reasons unknown, she apparently began hitting and slapping her cab driver. A police investigation is going on at this time. According to a police official interviewed by New York Magazine, “the driver stopped the car around 58th street and Second Avenue and called 911. He says Campbell jumped out of the car and ran.”  Campbell, who has had troubles with anger management in the past, could be in serious trouble if this story checks out and the investigations deems her responsible. Good for the driver she wasn’t hitting him with her phone this time!

Fashion designers, forget Anna Wintour, Theroux will be making a scene, and using ideas from the shows for the Zoolander sequel. New developments have been announced in the death of beloved British fashion designer Alexander McQueen.  News out of London states that just a day before the funeral for his mother Joyce was to take place, Alexander McQueen took his life by hanging himself in his London flat. Those that were close to McQueen have said he wasn’t coping well with the death of his mother and the 10 days following her death he had locked himself away.  During this time, it is believed that McQueen spiraled into a deep and dark depression.

Last Thursday night, celebrities took the runway in New York for The Heart Truth’s Red Dress Collection 2010 Fashion Show in support of heart disease. Heidi Klum was there to support the cause and looked absolutely beautiful on the runway as usual.  Klum work a sexy gown designed by John Galliano.  Kim Kardashian also took to the runway in a Marchesa grown, an anomaly for this print model. Kimora Lee Simmons also made an appearance on the runway for charity, donning a dress she designed from her soon to be launched collection titled Kouture by Kimora.  Simmons’ appearance at the event leaves us wondering if she will be making a comeback in the modeling industry.

As we have previously heard, Vera Wang will be lending her creative talents to create skating costumes for the Winter Olympics.  On Tuesday, male figure skater, Evan Lysacek, wore one of Wang’s looks she designed for him. Lysacek recently revealed that he will be donning 5 total looks designed by Wang in Vancouver.

Kate Moss and her rocker fiance Jamie Hence announced that they are working on a play based on a model’s crazy drug infested life. A source blabs: “Jamie is addicted to playwriting and is always jotting down scenes. He mentioned the idea to Kate, based around the lives of her and her friends, and Kate leapt at the chance to get involved.”  However, others in the business worry that the play may reveal intimate details of the business that may upset others.

Founder of Top Modeling Agency Passes

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

Nina Blanchard, the founder of an internationally known Hollywood-modeling agency whose roster included Cheryl Tiegs, Christie Brinkley, Shari Belafonte, Rene Russo, Cristina Ferrare and Catherine Oxenberg, has died.  Blanchard died of cardiac arrest last week at the age of 81.  She was a onetime TV makeup artist, casting director, and modeling school executive director.  Blanchard started the Nina Blanchard Agency in 1961 on her own, booking talent for television commercials, print advertising, and runway modeling.  Her agency was described in the Los Angeles Times in the mid-80s as “the best-known and richest of its kind outside Manhattan.”  Eileen Ford, a close friend and founder of Ford Models, shares a similar sentiment stating, “There’s no question she was the best agent in California.”  Moreover, Shari Belafonte, daughter of singer Harry Belafonte, said Blanchard “was driven and she was tenacious, she was a force to be reckoned with.”  In 1995, Blanchard co-authored “The Look”, a tell-all novel about the modeling business.  Also that same year, Blanchard sold her agency to Ford Models and has remained a quiet contributor to the fashion and modeling industry ever since.
