Do at the Zoo was a success once again

Monday, June 22nd, 2009

Every year PIA gets the privilege of staffing promotional sampling tents at the annual Denver Zoo’s, ‘Do at the Zoo‘. This year involved over 50 great local restaurants that were putting their best foot forward with great food at every turn to sample. Republic National Distributing once again supplied the event with great tasting spirits that had everyone enjoying flavors from all over the globe.

Singer/Songwriter Gregory Alan Isakov was definitely a hit with the large crowd that attended the special event. An estimated crowd of over 6,000 wined and dined the evening away while getting a chance to view the animals that they were there to support. This year’s beneficiary was the new ten-acre Asian Tropics conservation center and every dollar raised was matched by the Zoo Improvement Bonds fund.

Through music, great food, close-up animal encounters, world spirits and more, the 20th Anniversary of ‘Do at the Zoo’ was a great success and PIA can’t wait to be a part of this great cause next year.

This video highlighting the 2008 ‘Do at the Zoo’ will give you a great idea as to what the event is (enjoy the video for its editing and soundtrack too ;-) )

March Guest Blogger - Arianne F. Meade

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

PIA’s Guest Blogger for the month of March is make-up artist, Arianne Meade. She shares her recent adventures with us!

Hey there everyone!! I’m Arianne F. Meade and I’m a Certified Master Makeup Artist and licensed Esthetician (skincare specialist), I’ve been in our industry for the last 10 years working on independent film, print, editorial, fashion shows and major motion films traveling between Los Angeles, New York and now my home town of Denver.
What I want to talk about is the most exciting part of my makeup career came from the amazing opportunity I had when I became one of Christian Audigier’s preferred makeup artists almost 5 years ago. Working with such a super-star of a designer like Christian Audigier and Audigier Brand Management has taught me so much and given me so many great opportunities to display my skills in a fun and very creative environment.

Just in case you’ve been under the proverbial “fashion rock” Christian Audigier is the designer of clothing lines such as Ed Hardy Tattoo Wear, Christian Audigier the brand, Crystal Rock, Paco Chicano, Rock Fabulous, SMET and C bar A just to name a few Christian’s new lines.
So now that I’ve filled you in on some background lets get down to just how cool our Trade show, “When I Move You Move” at Caesar’s Palace, Las Vegas this last Feb. 16-19, 2009 really was…. This show is one of the biggest events of the week, if you’re familiar, there are two other Trade shows in Las Vegas at this time as well. Project and MAGIC these are all shows were buyers from around the world come to buy their favorite name brand and exclusive couture clothing from only the best designers and companies. However, my boss has his own agenda to be the most fabulous designer EVER and as a company with all of our brands we have created our trade show to rival those other silly shows as our brands truly stand alone and we, BRING IT!

This February our theme for the fashion shows at the event were dubbed “Cowboys and Indians, 2012” (by my makeup team mind you) So being the Key Makeup artist it’s my job to organize a team of 12 of the most talented and amazing makeup artists from around the nation to deliver to Christian one of the most fabulous fashion shows we’ve produced thus far. Another job I do for my shows and as a second career is branding and product placement so for this show so I acquired full sponsorship for my entire makeup team thanks to Benefit Cosmetics out of San Francisco, CA and for our amazing hair team Alterna Hair-care came in as another great sponsor, as well Ziba Beauty graciously provided my team with the Swarovski crystals we need to create our “Cowgirl” looks.

Our shows consisted of 25 female models, 15 male models (some of which were flown in from the Czech Republic!!) and we had performances by the Pussycat Dolls Lounge Dancers who were too sexy for their own good!! Now the “Cowboy” look had to be my most favorite look we got to do… Basically we arranged the gems around the eyes creating the illusion of designer sunglasses around their eyes, it really was money baby!! The “Indian Girl” looks consisted of very natural bronzed makeup with just a few touches of war paint on the cheeks and some “warrior” masks on our boys, but the best part was our amazing body painting team, Denika Bedrossian and Rob Rumsey who fully bronzed our “Indian Girls” from head to toe, as well as body painting two of our models in a full corset on the girl and a vest with a tie on our male model, truly two very talented artists I’m proud to call friends and fellow artists.

Our shows were live each day and they kicked off with our DJ spinning for the Pussycat Dolls performance which led us into our amazing fashion shows (I was proud to say the least) and for the finale Dave Stuart (guitarist for Annie Lennox and designer of Rock Fabulous) and our VIF, Christian Audigier himself performed the “American Dream” song together. The shows were truly so high energy and I have to say it was one of the most satisfying moments in my career, to be a part of the phenomenon that is Ed Hardy and Christian Audigier has been and honor and an opportunity I will forever cherish, he’s the kind of boss that never stops inspiring you to do greater be all you believe you can be.
As for what is happening after all the glamour of these high profile fashion shows I’ve had a few weeks off the prepare to start an Independent movie here in Denver, Colorado called “Serpent Rising” with Asgard Entertainment… It’s a fun Tech-thriller with lots of action and great fight scenes that will blow your mind!! Directly after that movie I will be heading back to Los Angeles to start production on my next movie, “Milo” with The TCS Productions. Please keep your eyes open for my first major theatrical release this September 11, 2009 of my fight movie called, “The Red Canvas” in which I was Key Makeup and SFX, slated to be released in 500 theaters across the nation!!

Thanks so much hope you enjoyed my stories!!

As Valentines Day comes and goes, love continues to be on the mind of many women. Now that winter begins to roll over into spring, it’s not just the love of men that we seek, but it’s the love of fashion that we chase after.

Before you get too jumpy for spring, enjoy what’s let of winter and the fabulous fashions that come during these cold weather months. In winters past, fashion has embraced and celebrated the feminine woman, with bright reds and yellows, knee length skirts and tall-high healed boots and delicately fabric coats. Now, with the ringing in of 2009, the latest’s fashions and trends give the big boot and good-bye to these girly girl looks, and say hello to the alpha-female!

It’s been called the Hilary Clinton effect: this season’s trend: the sleek and contemporary tomboy. Say goodbye to the frills and lace and say hello to the modern power suite. This winter’s clothing have been made up of mostly heavy and thicker fabrics like tweed, wool and stylish fleece. The colors have gone from the brighter blues and reds to the sophistication of black, grays, browns and off whites. These bold colors may scream masculinity however, sleek curves and a fabulous fit keeps your shapely feminine figure gorgeous and desirable.

These trends hit the runway in Europe and The United States with designers such as Bill Blass and Zac Posen, they dressed their models up in very sleek and fitted tuxedos with sheer jackets and blouses, masculine velvet pants and tweed vests. Celebrities, such as Carolina Herrera and Ashley Olson showed up glamorous and swanky in sequenced suites and an all white tux.

So how do you get these same fabulous without breaking your budget? Well first, take a note or two from your stylin’ masculine counter parts. Grab those old wide legged pants that you bought a few years back that have been hiding in your closet ever since the birth of the skinny jean. Don’t be afraid of playing with patterns when wearing wide legged pants, matching a pair of plaid pants with a solid top tends to be a great choice. Also, go bold when choosing a great jacket, those small pieces of fabric that only covered your shoulders have seen their days, get a good and warm jacket with a little bit of length, this will elongate your torso and give you a nice curve down your hips. Next grab a belt; thick belts are always in style and if you have a flirty vintage edge then go with a skinny belt. Wrap this belt around the outside of your jacket to get a great form fitting twist on this masculine style. Now that you are showing you pseudo male side, feel free to throw in some stylish feminine accessories into the look. With the wide legged pants, a great pair of pointed strappy heals will give you a nice tall tailored look, and to finish it off drape a colorful silk scarf around your neck.

Embrace winter, in these cold months there are so many choices and layering different types of fabrics and patterns allow you to have fun and play with your outfits each day.
