Dan Aykroyd and PIA models promote Crystal Head Vodka

Monday, November 30th, 2009

On November 20 & 21, 2009 Dan Aykroyd was in Denver, CO to promote his new ultra premium vodka line labeled Crystal Head Vodka. The Premier Image models were called upon to assist in the event and helped Dan look his best! Jenny P. and Lindsay V. were the two models selected to put their best foot, whoops sorry, head forward.

The event took place at Argonaut Liquors, the Oak Tavern and Applejack Liquors all of which are located in and around Denver, CO. The event was highly promoted and drew a crowd of thousands throughout the duration. Jenny P. and Lindsay V. did a great job in not only representing Crystal Head Vodka but also shined bright for Premier Image Agency!

Crystal Head Vodka is uniquely distilled and it also has a unique story of why and what the branding is all about.

Thousands of years ago, thirteen crystal heads were scattered across the earth - and they are greater and more powerful than anything we have the ability to manufacture today. Their workmanship is perfect: they contain no tool marks and have been cut against the natural axis of the crystal, defying the laws of physics. Some say they are artifacts from the lost civilization of Atlantis, some say they date back to the Mayans, still others say they were created by a higher intelligence.

Brought together, the Crystal Heads are said to contain vast knowledge and enlightenment capable of unlocking our most enigmatic ancient mysteries. Alone, each is believed to house radiant psychic energy, which has magical powers and healing properties.

April Guest Blogger - Make-up by Janine

Monday, April 13th, 2009

Premier Image Agency’s guest blogger for April is Janine Schmenk. She reviews her experience at New York’s Fashion Week. Her insights and photos from her latest make-up adventure are below!

Top Three Things You May Not Know About Fashion Week:

#3) Not Every Fashion Show Involves a Runway. . .

We’ve all heard about NY Fashion Week as taking place in “the Tents”. You know you’ve seen your fave Project Runway star wailing, “Its been my dream to show at Bryant Park!” They are referring to a set of three tents constructed in NY’s Bryant Park on 6th and 42nd. As an invitee to a show in the tents, you take your seat and watch as models pound the runway in the collection of the season (in this case, Fall 09 Ready-to-Wear). This setting especially suits designers who love the production aspects of a show: thematic music, over-the-top hair and makeup, even the movement adds theatricality and drama to a show.

This year, a trend for some designers was to show in a gallery style instead. Also referred to as a presentation, a gallery showing places the models in a space, and the audience moves around to view the designs, like an art gallery (hence, the name). For some, like Marchesa designer Georgina Chapman, a more intimate presentation is better suited to the designs themselves, allowing the viewer to see the detailing and workmanship of the dresses up close, and for as long as they like. For newer or less-well-known designers, the allure of a gallery show is the savings over the expense of a runway production. This style is also more suited to smaller, or “capsule” collections, as a runway would look silly with only 8 designs marching down.

One last advantage of a gallery-style showing? The location choice can speak about the collection. The shows that I worked with the AVEDA team fell under this rule. At the Bodkin show, the greenery of the NY Horticultural Society was a fit for the organic fabrics and sustainable fruit dyes of designer Eviana Hartman. The upscale cocktail designs of Ilana Sutherland’s 6119 show were aptly surrounded by the modern penthouse of a Chelsea studio. With champagne flowing and city views surrounding the collection, the context could not have been better. . . not even on a catwalk in a famous tent!

#2) And You Thought Packing for Spring Break Was Tough . . .

The road to Fashion Week was an exciting and lucky one for me. But the physical “getting there” was a little more difficult than I expected. No one is exactly a “fan” of TSA regulations. That being said, imagine if all the tools you need just to work come in liquid bottles and fragile palettes. You would want to carry-on all you could, not wanting to leave the most valuable possessions you have receiving anything less than white glove treatment. But the liquids cant go on board, and you can only have one carry-on and one checked bag. And so the deconstruction of the kit begins. . .

Any professional makeup artist understands the importance of having their kit organized to the nth degree. Reaching into your kit for an item, and knowing exactly where it will be saves valuable time, especially in a setting where every second counts. In our home cities, traveling with our kits perfectly intact doesn’t require a second thought. Our makeup team came from Denver, Dallas, Houston, Boston, and Penn. To get to New York, we broke our kits down for air travel, condensing as much as we could. Once there, i took everything i needed and packed in zip pouches into a canvas bag, knowing that schlepping my train case all through the subways and down the streets wouldn’t be fun. Working out of pared-down, unfamiliar kits was certainly challenging, but our team pulled together, shared what we had, and helped each other make it a success!

#1) Prepare, Prepare, Prepare. . . but the Most Memorable Moments are When the Unexpected Happens!

To get ready for the shows, our Team Lead, Andrea, meets with designers to do a “test”. They discuss the collection, the theme or mood of the show, and any specific ideas the designer and/or creative director have for makeup. Sometimes the designers have very specific ideas of what they want (bold brow, red lip, clean skin), and sometimes its more vague (romantic but modern). Then the lead pulls tears (images from magazines or web images) to give the designers a visual to work with. Once an idea is in place, the makeup and hair leads bring in a model and do a demo for the designer’s team so they can see exactly what the finished look will be. Often the hair Team Lead is doing the same thing. The teams work together, tweaking until it is exactly right, and everyone is satisfied.

On the day of the show, the makeup team arrives at the location with our entire kits, ready for anything. Once there, Andrea first tells us everything we need out on our station, makeup colors, product, tools, etc. After we set up, she shows us the tears, describes the look, and gives us a makeup map that she has prepared. The makeup maps are white sheets with a face printed on them, that show the placement of colors for a look. When everyone is on the same page, she brings in a model to do a demo. The makeup team (usually five or six of us) crowd around and watch, so that we know how the application is done. Andrea gives us tips and things to look out for as she goes. Once the demo finishes, the models start to arrive. We all grab one, and go to work! When we finish a model, we grab Andrea for a check, and find another to start on. Most often we are trying to wrestle them away from the hair team, which is notorious for model hogging! Otherwise they are near the craft table, and the best way to get them away from there is to tell them to make a plate and bring it over. Since we touch up lips right before the girls hit the runway, its not uncommon for us to paint face while the girls eat. After all, their days are spent running across town, from one show to the next. And, yes, models do eat!

The backstage process is pretty well organized and efficient. Its faced paced, true, but not the crazy chaos you might have imagined. But it wouldn’t be fashion week without the unexpected! At one of the shows, our look was a very natural dewy face. We finished all the models we had, and were still missing two. They finally ran in, definitely late, but in plenty of time to do a simple, natural look. Or so we thought. . . I was finished early, and had one sit in my chair. But when she sat down, i saw, to my horror, that she had come straight from another show; a show that had blue glitter shadow up to (and in) her brows, intricate braids in the hair, and navy nail polish! We had five girls working at once, two untangling her hair, one washing her face, one applying makeup to the clean side of her face, and two with nail polish remover and q-tips, furiously trying to scrub polish off her cuticles. Thank goodness for reinforcements!

In the end, fashion week was an amazing, surprising, and unforgettable experience! I have so many stories, and I hope you enjoyed sharing a few of them with me. Thanks friends!

Lucy’s Wish!

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

lucy

On April 11th we are doing an amazing event, for an awesome cause. We are partnering with Make A Wish Foundation to grant the fabulous wish of Lucy. Lucy is a 14 year old girl with hypoplastic anemia, her life wish is to go to NY Fashion Week 2010. We felt particularly drawn to help grant Lucy’s wish as we are in the fashion industry and feel we could really help make this special girls dream come true.

Some of you may know Make A Wish Foundation is one of the charities we work with here at PIA. This is the first time Make A Wish has actually partnered with this agency exclusively on an event and we feel very honored they are allowing us to throw this event in order to grant Lucy’s wish.

Our goal is to raise enough money through event sponsorships and donations for our silent auction to grant Lucy’s wish. We realize it is a difficult time for everyone right now in this economy, but we always have to remind ourselves we are so lucky as we still all have our health!

We are still looking for additional sponsors and donors for this event, so if you are interested please email Brooke directly at brooke@premierimageagency.com

March Guest Blogger - Arianne F. Meade

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

PIA’s Guest Blogger for the month of March is make-up artist, Arianne Meade. She shares her recent adventures with us!

Hey there everyone!! I’m Arianne F. Meade and I’m a Certified Master Makeup Artist and licensed Esthetician (skincare specialist), I’ve been in our industry for the last 10 years working on independent film, print, editorial, fashion shows and major motion films traveling between Los Angeles, New York and now my home town of Denver.
What I want to talk about is the most exciting part of my makeup career came from the amazing opportunity I had when I became one of Christian Audigier’s preferred makeup artists almost 5 years ago. Working with such a super-star of a designer like Christian Audigier and Audigier Brand Management has taught me so much and given me so many great opportunities to display my skills in a fun and very creative environment.

Christian Audigier and Dave Stuart

Christian Audigier performs

Just in case you’ve been under the proverbial “fashion rock” Christian Audigier is the designer of clothing lines such as Ed Hardy Tattoo Wear, Christian Audigier the brand, Crystal Rock, Paco Chicano, Rock Fabulous, SMET and C bar A just to name a few Christian’s new lines.
So now that I’ve filled you in on some background lets get down to just how cool our Trade show, “When I Move You Move” at Caesar’s Palace, Las Vegas this last Feb. 16-19, 2009 really was…. This show is one of the biggest events of the week, if you’re familiar, there are two other Trade shows in Las Vegas at this time as well. Project and MAGIC these are all shows were buyers from around the world come to buy their favorite name brand and exclusive couture clothing from only the best designers and companies. However, my boss has his own agenda to be the most fabulous designer EVER and as a company with all of our brands we have created our trade show to rival those other silly shows as our brands truly stand alone and we, BRING IT!

This February our theme for the fashion shows at the event were dubbed “Cowboys and Indians, 2012” (by my makeup team mind you) So being the Key Makeup artist it’s my job to organize a team of 12 of the most talented and amazing makeup artists from around the nation to deliver to Christian one of the most fabulous fashion shows we’ve produced thus far. Another job I do for my shows and as a second career is branding and product placement so for this show so I acquired full sponsorship for my entire makeup team thanks to Benefit Cosmetics out of San Francisco, CA and for our amazing hair team Alterna Hair-care came in as another great sponsor, as well Ziba Beauty graciously provided my team with the Swarovski crystals we need to create our “Cowgirl” looks.

runway-online9

Our shows consisted of 25 female models, 15 male models (some of which were flown in from the Czech Republic!!) and we had performances by the Pussycat Dolls Lounge Dancers who were too sexy for their own good!! Now the “Cowboy” look had to be my most favorite look we got to do… Basically we arranged the gems around the eyes creating the illusion of designer sunglasses around their eyes, it really was money baby!! The “Indian Girl” looks consisted of very natural bronzed makeup with just a few touches of war paint on the cheeks and some “warrior” masks on our boys, but the best part was our amazing body painting team, Denika Bedrossian and Rob Rumsey who fully bronzed our “Indian Girls” from head to toe, as well as body painting two of our models in a full corset on the girl and a vest with a tie on our male model, truly two very talented artists I’m proud to call friends and fellow artists.

Pussy Cat Dolls Lounge Girls

Pussycat Dolls Lounge Girls

Our shows were live each day and they kicked off with our DJ spinning for the Pussycat Dolls performance which led us into our amazing fashion shows (I was proud to say the least) and for the finale Dave Stuart (guitarist for Annie Lennox and designer of Rock Fabulous) and our VIF, Christian Audigier himself performed the “American Dream” song together. The shows were truly so high energy and I have to say it was one of the most satisfying moments in my career, to be a part of the phenomenon that is Ed Hardy and Christian Audigier has been and honor and an opportunity I will forever cherish, he’s the kind of boss that never stops inspiring you to do greater be all you believe you can be.
As for what is happening after all the glamour of these high profile fashion shows I’ve had a few weeks off the prepare to start an Independent movie here in Denver, Colorado called “Serpent Rising” with Asgard Entertainment… It’s a fun Tech-thriller with lots of action and great fight scenes that will blow your mind!! Directly after that movie I will be heading back to Los Angeles to start production on my next movie, “Milo” with The TCS Productions. Please keep your eyes open for my first major theatrical release this September 11, 2009 of my fight movie called, “The Red Canvas” in which I was Key Makeup and SFX, slated to be released in 500 theaters across the nation!!

Thanks so much hope you enjoyed my stories!!

Who is Jason Wu?

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

Jason

Designer Jason Wu continues his time in the fashion spotlight as rumors are confirmed that Michelle Obama will be wearing one of his gowns on the cover of the upcoming March issue of Vogue. The Washington Post reports:

In the cover photo, taken by Annie Leibovitz, Obama is leaning on a soft beige sofa at the Hay Adams Hotel, where the first family stayed days before the historic inauguration. Obama is wearing a magenta dress by designer Jason Wu, who designed her inaugural ball gown. Her hand rests under her chin. Her left hand folded beneath her. She is wearing a diamond that you do not often see her wearing in recent appearances.

Jason Wu also designed the First Lady’s inauguration dress, and all of this before the age of 26, we can’t wait to see what this talented designer will show us in the future!
